This week I have noticed that while I seem to have more of my finger placement down, I am not familiar with the notes. One of my goals for this semester was to learn to read music, so I thought that writing them out in a few different ways may help me! This is what I came up with:
These are some of the notes from the song The Scientist by Coldplay. I realized after that some of the notes are kind of upside down, but I have a better understanding of what they would look like. Part of the challenge I am having is that I can’t seem to find sheet music that matches the YouTube tutorial that I am teaching myself. I had considered trying to learn music first, but considering I am renting my cello by the month, it made more sense for me to jump into playing.
In the picture above, you may notice that I have colour coordinated the notes according to string. I find this visual to be really helpful in understanding which string I am playing. I have also included finger placement as well to help aid me.
Next week I am hoping to really focus on the note sounds to help myself learn to recognize the notes by ear. I will also be looking into other strategies I can use to help myself read music!
Hello Ashley!!
I really enjoyed reading your entry for this week! Your diagrams of the notes is so awesome and I love that you are using it as a tool to help learn them. Colour coordinating them is a great idea too 🙂
I hope you are able to find some sheet music that matches the Youtube tutorial. I would offer to help teach you but I am clueless when it comes to the cello. I’ll look online for some sheet music though!
Have a great rest of your reading break,
